This is a guide to provide measurements for the installation of our Mclaren 620R Style Canards. Measurements are an estimate from our own install using vernier calipers.
There are two approaches for installation (1) Tape (2) Rivnuts. Our recommendation is always riv nuts but appreciate a number of customers choose to use tape to avoid creating fixing holes. The install guide below is based on tape but the measurements remain the same regardless of which install approach you take.
Step One - Surface Cleaning (Sachets Provided)
Use the 70% Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and a towel to clean the surface of any oily layer or contamination on your car. Where heavy oil, grease or a ceramic coating is present, a “degreasing” solvent such as gasoline can be used to remove any contami- nants. However, take extreme care not to damage the paint.
When cleaning with solvent, always follow with an IPA clean to remove any remaining residue. Make sure to let the surface sit until fully dry before moving onto the next step.
Step Two - Adhesion Promoter (Optional but recommended)
Make sure to use a glove when handling any type of adhesive promoter. Quickly apply a single thin layer of the adhesive promoter to the surface area using the applicator sponge. Make sure to let the surface sit until fully dry before moving onto the next step.
If the surface has pre-existing damage, make sure you focus on these areas with the application of extra promoter.
Step Three - Mark Up & Measurement
Apply the provided tape to the canard, do not remove any of the red adhesive liner that will attach to the car during this test fitment.
Using the measurement guide below mark up the fixings. You can use removable tape applied to the body panel to help with marking up the fixing points.
Start with the top measurement point, measurements are to the edge of the body panel. Once this point has been made you can then pivot the bottom canard to the bottom point. Going top to bottom (pivot) makes installation a lot easier!
Make sure the canard is flush to the body panel. The measurements given are a good guide but you may find depending on your panel fitment a slight deviation maybe needed to get a flush fitment.
Step Five - Final Fitment
Remove the adhesive red liner. We personally find slightly heating the adhesive and the body panel with a hair dryer helps to warm the adhesion up for a better stick.
Apply the canard lightly based on your mark up points. Once happy press hard on the canard for final fix once in the correct position. You may want to re-measure before final hard press to make sure you're happy.
Once installed. Measure the top, side, and bottom points to ensure you replicate when you move to the other side of the car for fitment of the second canard.
Final Note
We highly recommend you let the car sit with the canards for 24 hours before driving. This 24 hours helps the adhesion cure and ensure a firmer fixing.
